Scalability means an application or system can handle increased load by adapting its resources.

Example:

• Works for 100 users
• Still works smoothly for 10,000 users

Types of Scalability

There are two types of scalability:

1. Vertical Scalability
2. Horizontal Scalability (Elasticity)

Vertical Scalability (Scale Up)

scale down - Reduce power of the SAME server

scale up - Increase power of the SAME server
