Privacy Policy for Save to Are.na Extension
Last Updated: Mar 4, 2024
Thank you for using the Save to Are.na browser extension ("the Extension"). This policy explains what information the Extension collects, how it's used and stored, and your choices regarding your information.
1. Information We Collect
The Extension needs to collect or access certain information to function correctly:
- **Are.na Account Authentication:** To connect to your Are.na account, the Extension uses OAuth 2.0. During this process, Are.na provides the Extension with an authentication token. This token is stored locally on your device using the browser's secure storage. The Extension does not collect or store your Are.na password.
- **Are.na Board Information:** To allow you to save content, the Extension fetches a list of your Are.na boards (channels) using the Are.na API.
- Recently Used Boards: To improve usability, the Extension stores the identifiers of the Are.na boards you most recently saved to locally using the browser's storage.
- Content You Save: When you choose to save an image:
- The URL of the image itself.
- The URL of the web page where the image was found (the source URL).
- Interaction Data: The Extension reacts to your interactions, such as hovering over images and clicking the save button, to initiate its features. No specific logs of these interactions are stored long-term by the Extension itself, beyond the temporary storage of recent boards.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information solely for the core functionality of the Extension:
- Authentication: To securely connect to the Are.na API on your behalf, allowing you to fetch boards and save content without re-entering your credentials.
- Saving Content: To send the image URL and source page URL to the Are.na API when you select a board to save to.
- Displaying Boards: To show you your available Are.na boards, including recently used ones, within the saving interface.
- Functionality: To enable the hover-to-save button and the board selection UI on web pages.
3. How We Store Your Information
- Local Storage: Your Are.na authentication token and the list of recently used board identifiers are stored locally on your computer using your browser's built-in storage mechanisms (
chrome.storage
or equivalent). This data remains on your device and is not transmitted to any external servers operated by us.
- **Are.na's Servers:** The content you save (image URLs, source URLs) is sent directly to Are.na's servers when you use the Extension to save an item. This data is then subject to Are.na's own privacy policy and terms of service.
