After a war with a god the remaining stars formed a new kingdom beneath the surface where most of the story takes place, primarily centered around a group of "outlaws" trying to overthrow the current archon.

$$ SUMMARY $$

The world above is barren and destroyed, a desolate wasteland where the Etherials once resided. The cataclysmic war against Null devastated the surface leaving it in ruins, and though the war that raged above is now over, the scars it left on the land are permanent. Null’s defeat and its eventual sealing have led to an era of darkness and silence above.

Following the war, the Sun and the Moon retreated beneath the surface forming a new kingdom - a kingdom where they could continue their existence far from the devastation caused above.
