Purpose
Running the program is about supporting people to have the best possible crewing experiences.
For “why crewing” in general, read the manifesto Goals for the Crewing Program
Object Level Goals (”What” is done)
Ideally we can support people in as much of the crewing lifecycle as possible, particularly the leads:
- Starting/joining crews
- Successful crewing experiences
- Ongoing support
- Reflection
“Meta” Goals (”How” it’s done)
- Sustainability - “How do we make running the program sustainable?”
- Modeling/leading by example - Can we show rather than tell?
- Iteration - “How do we improve the program over time?”
What was done (Summer 2024)
- Made a form for people to indicate interest in leading a crew https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1gvWYHUACnvLiPQosyUpv0lZfNE9sKsQ-V6dLjJKsOtY/edit?pli=1
- Created #crew-planning-summer-2024 (private) and #crew-facilitation-may-2024 (public
- Designed and ran various training for potential crew leads ‣ We ran an A and B session at the start, and reran A about 3 times for 2 or 3 people that later expressed interest in leading a crew
- Debriefed gatherings and interactions with potential crew leads
- Followed up with potential crew leads about getting more serious and creating a luma and entry in ‣
- Advertised people’s crews in #03-events-bulletin |
| Successful crewing experiences | - Followed up with crew leads after their first meeting, checked how they were, asked about anywhere they feel shakey
- Being available to crew leads if they had questions/concerns
- Ran a semi-failed “how to do reflections” session for crew leads |
| Ongoing support | - Attempted one “Leading stuff support group” that wasn’t attended :/ but an additional intention here is to support people to be better and more confident leaders and increase hosting capacity |
| Reflection | - One retro/reflection with crew leads
- One retro/reflection with everyone involved with crewing broadly
- Anecdata “assessment” of crews |
From Summer 2024 - a retro done with mostly crews that were still in progress
