Mental Model Alignment

  1. Alignment Exercise: Arrange an assortment of potential cognitive maps, with sample visual inputs and outputs. Have the participant sort through the full range of cognitive maps and select the ones applicable to their creative intent — being mindful and selecting only what they’ll use in practice. Feel free to create or modify cognitive maps with the participant on the spot based on their unique mental models. Discuss and iterate on other actions they’d like to perform as part of conditioning, the results that they expect from the model, and the most intuitive flow to achieve it.
  2. Prototypes: Share a set of prototypes representing prospective interaction patterns for each modality. Collect feedback regarding the intuitiveness of the interaction patterns, and ask for references to familiar adjacent modalities that the participants are familiar with.
