Update:
I’ve decided to drop this for the time being. Frankly I don’t have the time, but beyond that, I just feel very jaded with the state of Rockstar Games. Illegally union-busting and firing their employees, constantly kicking their community’s projects to the curb through DMCA strikes, greedy monetization practices in GTAOnline, and the choice to not release GTAVI on PC on launch. Its hard to be a Rockstar Games fan at the moment. I’ve got to put my money, and more importantly, my time, where my mouth is and not support this senseless, capitalistic bullshit.
Being my favorite video game studio behind my favorite video game franchise of all time (Grand Theft Auto), I decided it was time to play through Rockstar's entire main catalog leading up to Grand Theft Auto VI.
With my reviews, I’ll be giving my perspective as a Rockstar fanboy, but also a modern era gamer who started playing Grand Theft Auto III at like, five years old, and played almost all of Rockstar’s games in release order past that.
Some of the games will be revisits and replays while a lot of the smaller or more obscure titles will be new experiences. I’m not going to force myself to finish any game here, that would take way too long and just frankly be frustrating as hell — some of these have aged horribly. For many I will just play enough to get some good impressions of the title. For more stand out titles like GTA or RDR, I intend to finish most of them. Not 100%ing, but experiencing the main story.
The order of games here is based on a few different things. Some of it being release order, some of it for story purposes, and some of it just to give breaks from long or particularly rough games. Expect it to change around as I progress.
I will be modding some of the games where possible or necessary. Never with the intention of adding content or anything that is not vanilla faithful, just quality of life improvements or immersion/visual fedelity enhancements. I’ll try to make note of particularly important mods.
