Background

Devcon’s goal is to make Ethereum more accessible to communities around the world and to contribute to the ongoing evolution of the global Ethereum ecosystem.

The Ethereum community in Southeast Asia holds immense potential to play a pivotal role in the global Ethereum landscape. You can see the evidence in its rapidly growing crypto adoption: Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand are among the top 10 countries leading in the Global Crypto Adoption Index.

DevCon 7 is scheduled to take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from November 12 to November 15, 2024, expanding the DevCon experience to the entire Southeast Asia region.

Compared to Western culture, Southeast Asian culture is more diverse, blending various cultural features. Here, traditional and modern lifestyles coexist harmoniously, creating a unique cultural landscape. The diversity in religious practices is a notable feature, with various religions influencing each other, resulting in profound and unique religious and cultural experiences. Some Southeast Asian countries face challenges in socio-economic disparities and are actively promoting digital transformation, exploring blockchain technology and applications to secure a more prominent position in the global economy.

We aim to act as a bridge, coordinating and connecting Ethereum communities across Southeast Asia to form a collaborative organization for hosting a series of online and offline events under the "Road to DevCon" initiative. Each Ethereum community organization in different regions can independently design series of events tailored to local cultural characteristics. Simultaneously, all organizations will receive brand support, promotional assistance, guest invitations, community or project resource coordination, DevCon official support, and assistance in applying for RTD Grants under the unified initiative of "Road to DevCon."

Geographical Advantage

We will centralize activities in Thailand and expand to Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, the Philippines, and Indonesia, hosting "Road to DevCon" offline events. Each month, at least one Ethereum community organization from one country will organize at least one offline event, starting from February and lasting until October. November's offline events will primarily focus on Thailand. Meanwhile, there are no restrictions on the number of online events, allowing any country to freely organize various online activities.

Offline events will be primarily organized by local Ethereum community organizations, either individually or in collaboration with multiple organizations. Additionally, communities from other regions can coordinate to co-host Ethereum events in a common country, either jointly organizing or separately, depending on the circumstances.

There is no specific limit on the number of offline events in a single country, and we encourage local communities and those from other regions to organize as many cross-regional and cross-community events as possible, conditions permitting.

We also actively encourage Southeast Asia's ongoing or planned Ethereum-related activities to join "Road to DevCon," collectively expanding the influence of the Southeast Asian Ethereum community.

Event Topics

The specific topics and forms of activities are highly flexible and can be tailored to local circumstances. We encourage diversity, including but not limited to hackathons, talks, panel discussions, workshops, community gatherings, and university lectures, to align with the needs and interests of Ethereum community participants in each region.

The overarching theme of the activities revolves around Ethereum, covering a wide range of topics such as education, artificial intelligence (AI), zero-knowledge proofs (ZK), account abstraction (AA), maximizing extractable value (MEV), Rollups, Layer 2 (L2), security, privacy, data availability (DA), staking and re-staking, soul bonding (SBT), development languages, public goods, governance, decentralized science (DeSci), network states, pop-up cities, and more.

We encourage participants to explore and share the latest developments, technological innovations, practical experiences, and future outlooks within the Ethereum ecosystem. The diversity and richness of activities aim to facilitate in-depth communication and collaboration among participants, bringing a more enriched experience and insights to the entire Ethereum community.
