This plan involved input from the administrative team, janitorial contractors, and tenant re-opening working group to ensure our collective goal of flattening the curve while safely welcoming visitors back to River Market.
River Market Phase 3 Reopening: July 28, 2020
Province of British Columbia has laid out a careful Relaunch Plan that includes during Phase 2 (May 19 onwards) the restoration of the retail sector and restaurants under enhanced protocols.
River Market reopened Wednesday, June 3, 2020.
Building Hours
Public hours (market open to visitors): Sunday to Thursday: 10 am to 6 pm, Friday and Saturday 10am - 7pm
Shops with independent entrances may operate outside these hours, provided that their customers and guests do not enter River Market common spaces.
Hours open to shop staff, members, and students, and delivery: Monday to Sunday: 8am to 8:30pm
Retailer and Restaurant's Conditions for Opening
- [ ] Follows the requirements of British Columbia's Re-Start Plan and Worksafe BC requirements.
- [ ] Submits re-opening plan, safety plan, and layout to River Market admin team.
River Market Common Area
- Entrances. Designated entry and exit doors
- Enter through river side west door and exit through street side west door.
- Enter through east patio door and exit through west south patio door.
- Direction arrows will be placed to guide one way flow in narrow areas.
- Paddlewheeler Pub doors into the rest of the building are closed to maintain limited entrance and exit points
- Number of visitors entering the market will be counted periodically by administration staff to limit occupancy.
- Common area seating and furniture
- If you are eating outside please ensure your group is no larger than 6 people.
- Limited seating is available in the Food Hall.
- Tables and chairs are placed in such a way as to ensure 2 meters of distance between chairs of people dining.
- Masks must be worn except when seated at a table and eating or drinking
- Seating in groups is limited to more than 6 people per table.
- Tables may not be rearranged.
- Tables are sanitized at minimum once per hour.
- Sanitization wipes are provided so visitors may clean surfaces before dining.
- Allow for physical distancing
- Shop queues in the common spaces will have physical distancing markers placed on floor to allow for space
- Restaurants and retailers are responsible for managing the occupancy level within their stores and managing their own customers queues according to their safety plans.
- Mask or Face Covering Required
- Wear a non-medical mask or face covering while in Market common areas.
- In keeping with Public Health Orders and Fraser Health Guidelines masks are not required while dining.
- Exemptions are allowed for guests with disabilities, children under the age of five and those who have medical conditions that don't allow them to wear masks.

- Limit the number of people inside washrooms.
- Every other stall will be closed with signs posted
- Every other faucet will be turned off with signs posted
- Washroom queue markers are identified with floor decals
- Close second floor to the public
- Only staff, members, students of second floor businesses are permitted upstairs. Access via exterior stairs, elevators, or interior stairs.
- Businesses will use different exterior entries to help with distancing and ensuring that only their staff, members, and students enter the second floor.
- Escalator between first and second floor will be turned off and blocked from use with physical barriers and signage
