Description

Strategic Communications will work with teams to periodically evaluate IREX’s websites and social media accounts. When an evaluation indicates that a website or social media account is underperforming or outdated, Strategic Communications and the team that manages the digital property will jointly decide on steps for improving or retiring the property.

This should be a joint decision in the vast majority of cases. However, if Strategic Communications and the team that manages the digital property cannot reach agreement, Strategic Communications will ultimately be responsible for making the final decision, in consultation with the practice head or unit head that oversees the digital property.

Scope

This applies to external-facing IREX websites and IREX social media accounts.

Rationale

Out-of-date and underperforming websites and social media accounts pose significant risks and costs for any organization. When IREX’s digital properties become outdated or difficult to use, visitors are likely to get a negative impression of who we are and what we do. Inactive properties are especially vulnerable to digital security risks. This policy provides a way for IREX to extend the lifetime of its digital properties while enabling the organization to close properties that no longer meet IREX’s needs.
