What is Sexual Harassment?

Sexual harassment is unwanted or unwelcome behaviour of a sexual nature, for which a reasonable person would have anticipated the possibility that a person harassed may be humiliated, intimidated or offended. It is unlawful to sexually harass someone in the workplace or in any work-related context, including after hours functions, external training sessions, end of year parties and business trips.

Sexual harassment can take many different forms including physical contact, verbal comments, the display of offensive material and uninvited intimacy. Sexual harassment covers a wide range of behaviours including, amongst other things:

It is important to be aware that sexual harassment can affect males and females and can be perpetrated by both sexes. It can be performed by individuals or in groups, and can extend to persons who witnessed, condoned, trivialised or otherwise indirectly participated in the sexual harassment.
