We hope you are all hanging in there and pushing through to the end of the semester (and congratulations to those of you that are already done)! The UniGlo team wanted to share some of our thoughts and resources we’ve found helpful to navigate this incredibly confusing/unsettling/all-over-the-place time we’re in. We don’t have it all figured out, but here are some of our own struggles and things that have **helped!

Embrace Change

Though we’ve all been adjusting to a new normal, it probably looks vastly different for each of us, and can vary a lot from day to day. Allow your priorities to shift accordingly—some days, what’s most important might be doing deep work and feeling a strong sense of focus, while on other days, it’s just getting a lot of sleep. These things may come up on the fly, and weekly rhythms may have little rhyme or reason, and that’s ok. Allow yourself to adapt to these changes—your priorities can fluctuate!

Celebrate the Small Wins

Adapting takes time and energy. Don’t neglect the small things you may be doing that are giving you a sense of stability. I’m nowhere near what my ideal version of schooling from home looks like, but I’m making progress—I’m being more consistent with personal hygiene habits, am making better choices about food, but am also still watching things I don’t even care about when my classes are done at 2AM instead of going to bed. - Am

Access Virtual Resources!

Lots of awesome people have created thoughtful resources to help us navigate these new circumstances. Make use of study-with-me streams, free educational content/software, Netflix Party-type extensions, and online games. These allow for a nice change of pace during your day, and fun ways to connect with each other virtually!

We’ve compiled some resources we love below!

Try to Reflect

Take advantage of some of the time and space you may have to reflect: on what’s going on around you, on the semester/year, on yourself, the show you watched last night, anything! I’ve been trying to journal the thoughts (no matter how random) that circulate when my mind starts to wander-- usually in the middle of a really long reading for class. One of my professors makes us do weekly journal entries with a free response/rant section, which has also become another platform for me to sort through some of my thoughts during this time. - Dini

Communicate!

Whether it’s taking a study break to Facetime friends and dwell in the craziness that is 2020 or setting up a study session on Zoom to keep each other accountable, I don’t think I would have made it through the past few weeks without keeping in touch with friends. It has definitely been hard knowing that a bunch of my friends are back in town, but not being able to meet them, but having virtual game nights (check out our virtual resource compilation doc for a spreadsheet of games!) while on call has definitely helped make up for it :) - Dini

Try to establish routine

It’s easy to get caught in the loop of seemingly endless freetime, and one of the best ways I’ve found to combat lethargy/procrastination is to at least try to set up a schedule! It doesn’t have to be super intense or tight, but I’ve found that providing structure that resembles something like what I would have had at school comes in handy during times like this, where everything can easily feel very overwhelming. - Athena

Don’t be too hard on yourself about keeping in touch
