positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement
Basically pavlovian theory. If you do something they don’t like, they’ll try to discourage it with some sort of negative stimuli. It is usually immediate but it can also take the form of retaliation later, usually if that is the case, big they will signal what they are retaliating for in some way so you know what is being negatively reinforced.
This works the other way too, they will positively reinforce desired behavior through scripts, ques, easing of pressure, giving you a “good day” where they don’t actively try to sabotage your activities.
