International students living in Ghent
- Apply for your residence permit (or renewal) online.
- Follow the procedure which applies to your situation.
- All information about the different procedures can be found on the website of the city of Ghent. Read the information carefully to make sure you follow the correct procedure.
- Fill in the e-form.
- Depending on the followed procedure a police officer might visit you to check if you do indeed live at your address
- Afterwards you will receive an appointment to go to the Migration Office to complete your residence permit application.
- If you are staying at the UGent residences (through our Housing Office), you will be invited for a group meeting for the residence check if necessary.

International UGent students living in Bruges
Since the housing shortage in Ghent, there are more UGent students living in Bruges.
International students need to register online at the “Huis van de Bruggeling”. This is the migration desk in Bruges.
- Students arriving in Bruges should first apply with this online registration first. Upload all correct and necessary documents (only pdf documents!). After arrival only and within 8 days.
- You will receive a confirmation by e-mail. Read this information carefully. It will also state that you don’t need to e-mail the city of Bruges. Please avoid e-mailing the migration desk.
- Students applying for A-card will be invited to the office. Note that the invitation will be sent to you. This can take some time, be patient 🙂
- Students applying for short term stay: you will receive all documents by e-mail. You will not be invited to the office. Again, patience is appreciated.
International UGent students living in Kortrijk
We also have a campus in Kortrijk and Kortrijk is also a very cool student city. Students who live there should register at the migration office of the city of Kortrijk.
