yoo joonghyuk wears a mask only takes it off when he finally gives his loyalty to kdj

He is not an emotional person. He does not like being told what he is supposed to do. He makes his decisions, and he bears with it, and follows through.

And so, in that moment, he knows with a certainty he has never felt before: this person is one he would be loyal to for eternity. One that he will swear to protect.

So while the prince laughs self deprecatingly to the side, looking off the balcony, he takes out his sword and kneels on one knee.

"-Huh?" The sound startles the prince and he turns around to see the knight stabbing the sword into the brick floor. He swiftly pulls off his mask and places it aside, then places both hands on the sword head bowed. His hood falls off with the wind.

"From this day, I swear my loyalty to you till the day I die."

Then the knight looks up, and is witness to the strangest expression on the prince's face.

He looks horrified.

The prince drops to his knees, and reaches past the sword to touch the knight's face. The knight can't figure out why the prince's so shaken. He didn't react this harshly when the other knight had sworn loyalty. Isn't this custom?

His hand is cold, the knight thinks. He doesn't stop him.

"Y- you-" the prince whispers out, unable to finish his sentence. There are tears in his eyes.

The knight absently notes that the prince's hands are shaking. He slowly holds the hand that continues to caress his cheek to still it.

They stay still like that, and the moon shines on them in it all its sorrow; as the prince weeps as he is held by the knight that swore to protect him, the one whom he'd always sought to protect, the lost memories weaving around them in their quiet way of mourning.
