Introduction:

Hi! I’m Georgia, and I live in San Francisco!

My friend just had her baby and I knew these first two weeks would be really hard for her., I wanted to see the baby but I didn’t want to disturb her with empty hands, so I came up with this idea about traditional Chinese postpartum meals kit!

I’m so happy that people on Reddit liked it too. Since many of you asked for the recipes, I decided to write this little guide. Because there are so many kinds of Chinese postpartum meals, I couldn’t include everything in one document. So here, I only recorded the first 2 weeks of recovery and 10 kinds of different congee with ingredients and cooking steps.

If you like this, feel free to leave me a comment on Reddit! I’ll try to organize more recipes in the future💕. And English isn’t my first language, so please forgive any small mistakes — I hope the warmth still comes through. 🌿

I hope it helps every new mom recover smoothly and feel cared for during this special time.

Attention

Some of the congees in this guide can take a bit more time to cook.

If your ingredients include

They usually CANNOT become fully soft within 40 minutes unless they’re pre-soaked.

These ingredients need to be soaked in cold water for about 4 hours before cooking, or in hot water for about 40mins before cooking.

But I understand for new moms, finding time to pre-soak ingredients can be difficult. You already have so much to take care of. 💛

So here’s my suggestion if you want to finish it in 30 mins 😎

  1. If your ingredients include red beans, black beans, or mung beans, you don’t have to cook them as porridge.

  2. Instead, simply put all the ingredients into a blender or soup maker.

  3. Add 800ml of water (up to the “Hot Drink” line),

  4. And choose the Soy Milk or Soup function. </aside>
