"We thought nobody would take us seriously -- a bunch of 14-15 year olds collecting donations in the early days of coronavirus in India. But thankfully they did, and 'Masks For India' was off to work. Our first goal was to distribute masks in the slums. But we quickly realised masks were not the only thing -- they did not have access to food items or sanitary pads. So we switched gears and started distributing those in the slums of Vasant Kunj and West Delhi as well, through a tie-up with a member of an NGO and the police. When the Government was organising buses for the migrant workers, we provided milk powder, rice and sanitary pads to the two buses. In the beginning, my role was to recruit more members and plan the process of collecting and distributing masks along with my own personal goal to collect one lakh in donations -- which we achieved by April end. I contacted my friends and family and answered their questions and showed them pictures. But ever since the virus reached its full phase, people stopped donating. The ones who wanted to help already had. We are planning to establish a trust in Gurgaon which will become a certified NGO for selling masks at fair price. This is the first time I've been part of something so large scale. It's helped me to see and experience what the vulnerable sections of society go through -- they are not the ones who protest or write comments online, but the ones who have to suffer in silence and enjoy life with whatever they have. I know when I have my own business one day, I want to create something that benefits society, not just me alone." Link to donate is in our bio!
