Reading list

Some context

The embedded reading list below contains my favorite (i.e. recommended) books dating back roughly two years (early 2016), when I began keeping a list.

It also contains my “to read” list, i.e. books I plan to read. I get these recommendations from a number of sources, but they come primarily from: friends and colleagues who are avid readers and from people on Twitter and elsewhere on the internet who share similar interests.

Why keep a public list?

I’ve tried keeping lists in the past in a number of ways, but each has had one or more acute pain points: Good Reads (too much noise from readers with dissimilar interests), Amazon wish lists (can’t share publicly), handwritten lists (pick a reason), and so on…

So, my intent in keeping a public list is to solve the above problems as well as achieve the following:

  1. Keep a running list of my upcoming reads without the noise of recommendations I don’t care about
  2. Enable quick sharing of my favorite books with others, especially along the lines “here are my favorite books about X”
