I really resonate with Ying Gao’s perspective about experimentalism in fashion. I feel as though since a lot of fashion trends are repetitive reinterpretations or imaginations of previous trends which cycles seem to grow exponentially without room to evolve into something unique. To be able to use fashion as a means of pure expression and art rather than an output of consumerism and surface level aesthetics.
I think her fingerprint work is a really great example of this as it utilizes a creative way to challenge what we know about a basic concept.
