ReadWeft is a free, open-source desktop PDF and e-book "super app." It is built to be offline-first and private by design: your documents and the work you do with them stay on your computer. This policy explains, in plain terms, what data ReadWeft handles and what it does not do.
Summary (TL;DR)
- ReadWeft does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data.
- There is no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind.
- There are no user accounts and no sign-in.
- All document processing — viewing, editing, conversion, compression, encryption, OCR, and AI features — runs locally on your device.
- ReadWeft does not make outbound internet connections on its own.
Information we collect
None. ReadWeft has no servers, no backend, and no account system. We, the developers, do not receive any information about you, your device, or your usage.
Data stored on your device
To function, ReadWeft saves data only on your own computer, in your operating system's standard per-user application storage. This data never leaves your device unless you move it yourself. It includes:
- Your library and reading state — references (file paths) to documents you open, collections, favorites, notes, reading positions, and thumbnails.
- Annotations and saved signatures — highlights, ink, shapes, sticky notes, and free text you add to documents, plus signature images you draw or import for re-use.
- Preferences and settings — appearance, accessibility, and feature settings, including any AI/MCP endpoints you choose to configure.
- On-device AI index — locally computed text embeddings used for semantic search and "find similar," derived from documents you open.
- Temporary working files — short-lived files created during operations such as save, compression, OCR, watermarking, and printing. These are written to your system temporary directory and cleaned up after use.
You can remove this data at any time by deleting it from within the app (e.g., clearing your library/recents) or by uninstalling ReadWeft.
Your documents
The PDFs, e-books, comics, and other files you open are read directly from where they already live on your device. ReadWeft does not upload, copy to the cloud, or transmit your documents. Their contents are processed in memory and, where needed, in temporary local files as described above.
