Rakan Tutor is a registered youth-led nonprofit in Malaysia focused on building the next generation of AI-ready youth in ASEAN. We democratize AI education by delivering high-impact programs and competitions that deliver real-world AI literacy.

With 28 million jobs in ASEAN at risk of being replaced by AI by 2030, underserved youth -72% of whom have no or low levels of advanced digital skills - face the greatest threat.

Over the past 1 year, Rakan Tutor reached over 3,000 individuals in Malaysia, Indonesia and Laos through:

1. Future AI Leaders Workshops (656 students) - Introducing AI to high-school students through inspirational talks from industry professionals and hands-on demos to spark curiosity and build foundational understanding.
2. Train the Trainer Workshops (54 teachers) - Equipping educators with the skills and knowledge to leverage AI tools and incorporate AI curricula in their classes
3. National AI Competition (2120 students) - Largest AI competition for youth in Malaysia in partnership with Sunway University.
4. Rakan AI (452 users) - Gamified digital platform that features bite sized and self-paced modules that are designed to build essential AI literacy.

Join us as we expand the impact of these programs whilst introducing new initiatives to serve students in Malaysia and ASEAN.

We are a fully volunteer-run organization, led by a committee that serves on a one-year term. Our team brings together Malaysian pre-university students, university students, and young professionals based around the world – a rare structure that fosters intergenerational learning, mentorship, and diverse perspectives.

Note: In 2021, Rakan Tutor was founded as a non-profit organization to address pandemic related learning loss. We work with students aged 16-19 from underserved backgrounds. Starting 2025, we shifted our focus from academics to future-ready AI skills.
