Problem

Australia’s Mandatory Sustainability Reporting (from Jan 2025) and the rise of data-driven industries create a new challenge:

• Organisations must report Scope 1–3 emissions, but digital data storage and cloud computing are now major hidden emitters — the “Cloud Carbonivore” effect.
• Data centres already consume 2 % + of global energy and are projected to grow 160 % by 2030.
• Most companies, especially councils, archives, and small enterprises, don’t know their digital carbon footprint — or how to reduce it.
