D-CELL GAMES wants to help foster an official mod-chart community - we’d love the ability to showcase cool charts, hold charting events, and have official spaces to discuss and share charts!

However, we also want to have a positive relationship with our fellow musicians and artists. And unfortunately, there have been many incidents of artists discovering that mod-charts are allowing their music to be used or shared in ways they don’t want.

In order to help facilitate both things, we have put into place some policies regarding the use and share of custom charts and their associated songs! Following these rules will let us keep doing super cool things with other artists and other games!

DISCLAIMER:

We are actively moderating our official spaces and our official channels.

We can’t see what you choose to do on your computer, we can’t control everything you choose to post online, and we can’t moderate the entire internet.

However - if we are made aware of any charts being shared online that violate our policies, we reserve the right to request that media be taken down.

Sharing any chart online puts you at risk of that. The best way to avoid that risk is to follow these restrictions below!

Also: If you ask us about a potential loophole in the rules, we will likely respond by closing that loophole. Thank you for your understanding.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT ASK OTHER RHYTHM GAMES IF YOU CAN USE THEIR EXCLUSIVE SONGS!

Please note that this rule specifically refers to original songs made for that rhythm game.

A lot of rhythm game developers have expressed to us that even asking to use their IP in another rhythm game comes off poorly to them. They will also almost certainly say no.

We are always looking to do official song trades with other rhythm games in a fair and respectful manner, and to do that we’d rather not spam them with a million requests from our fans!

If a rhythm game is okay with using their music in another rhythm game, they will likely have that listed in their own derivative works policies - so check that instead!

Don’t violate our FANWORKS POLICIES!

Make sure you have the artists’ permission before you share a custom chart - this includes for videos!

Additionally, we reserve the right to take down charts and videos of charts for any reason, especially if we deem the content misrepresents the game, is overtly offensive, is locked behind a paywall, or circumvents DLC access.

Here’s a list of cases for releasing customs that are generally expected to not be allowed no matter what, even if you technically have the permission of the artist.

Don’t use original music from UNBEATABLE that has not yet been added to ARCADE MODE! (You can make charts of original music that’s already there, though!)

We intend on doing official ARCADE MODE charts for a lot of the game’s music and releasing it in future, free updates. We would appreciate you not making your own charts preemptively!

If the song is already in ARCADE MODE, is not locked behind DLC, and isn’t a remix or a collaboration, go wild.

If a song is in ARCADE MODE but is one of our remixes, licensed songs, or collaborations (anything in the variety category!) ask for permission!

You’ll need to ask the remixers individually for permission if you’re making your own set of customs. Collab songs and songs in the Variety category often have unique licensing terms that prevent us from granting you all permission to use them in charts!

Unless an exception is given otherwise, you should assume that you MUST ask for permission from the artist or IP holder for a custom chart, even if we’ve already officially worked with them.

Any songs you don’t have PERMISSION from the rights-holder(s) to use should not be shared or posted online!
