At least two faces of quantum physics strongly overlap with Edge City’s scope: technology and philosophical implications. Many questions in quantum topics have remained open for a long time (maybe a century by now!), and that’s an effective curiosity spark spanning many communities. But many other questions have recently been answered—particularly in the tech field: is the second quantum revolution happening? Absolutely yes.
Setting up Quredge is relevant (and timely) for different reasons. I have identified three main legs where Edge could make a significant contribution and help steer the field’s advancement.
Web3 is way more than sending money through a blockchain. Quantum tech is also way more than solving discrete logarithm problems (potentially breaking massively adopted cryptographic protocols such as RSA and ECC, and giving rise to a whole field coined post-quantum cryptography, which is not little). Yet, ecosystems -e.g. Ethereum- lack quantum workforces that identifies, develop, and provide solutions with quantum technologies that go well beyond cryptographic applications. Is there room for an interdisciplinary Quantum Ethereum workforce? Will it be born at Quredge?
Quredge is quite unique to seriously discuss collaborations between artists and scientists, and needless to say, web3 engineering, quantum vibe-coding, and any sort of cross-pollination collab that may occur ad Edge and we can’t predict at all. The underlying question is how to optimize brainstorming when it comes to quantum applications research. That’s a trillion-dollar question, yet to be addressed.
Quredge will bring both quantum & web3 tech firms, research & engineer talent, but also creatives. Whether the Sillicon Valley-way of startup model is the right one for the quantum economy is something no-body knows; storytelling and quantum economy—how to frame a tech revolution?
There’s an infinite amount of hype-keywords and fancy words, and providing meaning to all that bubble is a task that motivated people at Edge could easily carry out. However, let us shortly do that exercise!
