Abstract

Quarantine 2040 is a VR video that imagines another quarantine happening in the near future and presents a speculative conversation around the limitations of VR in a simulated virtual environment. With all of the lessons learned from the quarantine experience during Covid-19, will the situation be better when VR is used as a solution?

This project is inspired by the quarantine experience during Covid-19. Being confined at home for a long period and having limited contact with the outer physical world, people's perception of time and space changed radically. While we were virtually connected using software like Zoom, this project further investigates whether the use of VR in such a condition will bring a different perspective. Using photorealistic style people in the scene, this project positions itself in between formal communication tools like Zoom and entertainment VR experience like VRChat.

Stage 1: testing scene & positioning

I started with exploring different environment such as a forest scene and cafe, and also tested with the shooting angle using depthkit and Azure Kinect.
