PUENTE stands for People United to Enrich the Neighborhood Through Education. PUENTE is Spanish for bridge - they are a bridge to learning and self-sufficiency for children, youth and adults. For 35 years they have provided quality education programs to meet the needs of the community of Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles. During the Covid-19 pandemic their programs have gone virtual with distance learning instruction happening daily.

Their Saturday English as a Second Language Conversation Class will invite UCLA volunteers to join the class on Zoom and participate in conversation on a variety of topics led by the instructor. Life skills, work skills and getting to know each other are just some of the topics to be discussed. Volunteers just show up, bringing their willingness to talk and share about themselves with our student community.
