Dear Pub Influencers,

You’ve received this link because you have control over a pub/s in Croydon that have closed. You might be a commercial agent, councillor, landlord or planning consultant.

At present Croydon has lost 113 pubs since 2000. The UK average of pubs to people is 6 pubs to 10,000 and in Croydon it’s just 2.

You own a pub, run a pub or keep a pub from being a pub, you may have been to a pub, live near a pub or are managing a pub. Fundamentally you have power to change the public house.

You are member of the ‘public’ meaning ‘the people’ and this is our ‘House’. We are losing public spaces and our sense of community. Croydon Council amongst many across the UK are selling off public spaces including libraries, swimming pools, and leisure parks, so we are asking what could this space become beyond a private one?

This project, this manifesto is a question to YOU. This space was designed to serve THE PEOPLE, so TALK with your community. Whatever time you have, if you care about a space like the pub we wanted to give you the tools for change.

During the interview process, we found something Michelle said profoundly resonated with this feeling that Croydon is losing public space:

‘it then creates a much safer space for everybody. You know, because that girl got shot, got stabbed yesterday and killed and that’s horrendous at 8am in the morning, someone can't go to school. You know, and what does that then do? A whole load of kids will just be like, I'm not going to school. And that's tragic. You know, and you just sort of think, how do you build the community so those things don't happen?’ — Michelle Baharier, Punter, Interviewee for (Pub)lic House
