1. Best Practices

Building = Thinking: “Enlightened Trial and Error” – When in doubt, build. But be mindful of process and purpose. Rough, Rapid, Right: Rough & Rapid: Keep early prototypes quick and dirty; go only as far as you need to make your discovery. Right: Think about why you are building the prototype; make sure you are working on the right problem at the right time. Express, Test, Cycle: Visualize – Evaluate – Repeat Golden Rules of Prototyping: Design by the pound – quantity relates to quantity! One question, one prototype – pay attention to specifics! Go far enough – once you are satisfied, do one more! Stop before it's perfect Cannibalize as much as possible Don't fall in love with your prototype Always build and share more than one prototype Create to provoke and persuade Experience Prototyping Considerations: Participation not Presentation Lean towards Lo-Fidelity Focus on Context & Emotions Subjectivity – try to experience what the user experiences to build empathy
