WinXP_irl is a walking simulator game that immerses the player into a unrealistic, 3D stylized winXP desktop. The player will explore through gigantic models of WinXP desktop icons on the landscape in the classic "bliss" wallpaper, looking for a forbidden file in the system.
For a long time we all wanted to create a simple, fun game with no deep meaning. WinXP_irl is created to bring that nostalgic childhood vibe back to us Gen-Zs, and also a creative way to showcase the best windows OS ever from a different perspective.

Since this game is somewhat related to Nostalgia and our first memories with a PC, we want to make the controls very 2000s.
Press down and tilt the ThinkPad-like red dot navigator to move the mouse/look around; press W to move forward, and a touchpad-style mouse button to interact(see the image below).
Alternative: We're not sure if this is buildable (we need a mini joystick, a single-key keyboard and a stiff button with a hard rubbery click.
Alternative2: If this game will end up being in a tangible exhibition, we will go with a whole ThinkPad keyboard and take away the mouse.
W to move forward, left click to interact, mouse to navigate/look around.
Overall: The game will feature an art style of the mid-2000s internet, but in a more realistic and skeuomorphic (拟物化) way.
Environment: The bliss hill will be modelled out and rendered in a realistic-animated style.
Objects: the big icons will be modelled out and rendered in a animated, glossy art style, similar to the early 3D aesthetics in the web 2.0 era.
