Which marketing channels work best for Virtual Events?

Virtual Events might be a new concept to your customers, but you will probably know the best way to communicate with them. If you have marketing channels that have worked for you in the past, start with those. Here's what we've seen work best for our other Virtual Event organizers.

1. Email Marketing

If you have an existing list of email subscribers, launching your event using email is probably the fastest, cheapest, and most effective option. Check out our guide to launching your Virtual Event by email for advice on what information you should include, how to maximise sign-, and some example emails.

2. Word of Mouth

One of the most powerful ways to grow your event is by persuading your attendees to invite other people. Make your event stand out from the crowd and people will talk about it, for example by raising money for a good cause or by making it a themed event.

Make sure you ask your participants to invite their friends, families, colleagues, and running clubs to take part with them to maximise the word-of-mouth effect.

3. Social Media

Use your social media following to announce your Virtual Event. When you launch your event, make sure you let all your followers know about it across all social channels. Make sure you include the registration link and ask your followers to tag friends who might be interested to achieve maximum reach. To maximise your reach on Facebook consider creating a Facebook event for your new Virtual Event.

4. Facebook Advertising

As advertising budgets have been slashed in the wake of COVID-19, the cost of advertising on Facebook has dropped dramatically. Facebook ads can be a great way of growing your Virtual Event attendance for 3 reasons:

  1. You can advertise anywhere in the world
  2. Because a Virtual Event all happens online, you can more easily attribute where sign-ups came from than for a physical event
  3. With Virtual Events, your profit margins are higher (because you don't have to spend money on venue, insurance, equipment etc), meaning you have more marketing budget to play with

You can add a Facebook pixel to your Let's Do This event page to track how well your campaigns are performing (ask your account manager).

5. Ambassadors & Partners
