Brief Description:

Sammy Chien and Caroline MacCaull co-run Chimerik 似不像, an award-winning interdisciplinary art collective. "We Were One" is an act, or ritual, it connects us to one another while simultaneously questioning the prejudices we experience as a society. Through actively decolonizing and unfettering intricate and complex dialogues around model minority racism, intersectional feminism and queerness, we re-image and contemporize ancient architectures and practices (Qi Gong, Energy Healing work, Ancestral Rituals and Mediumship). Through the transmission of the subtle body and somatic intelligence, we share our story of this twin-soul-journey, as a way to further understand the past to help us heal forward.

0.1 Project description:

"We Were One” is a dance research project focused on the intersections of movement art, spirituality, technology and queerness. By utilizing ancestral rituals, energy practice, shamanic channeling and somatic-sensation research we are able to access a deeper understanding of human connections and potentials. It is a story that encourages us to look into our own wisdom, from our subtle body, compassionate ancestors, teachers and our higher mind. This is a way to deal with the inevitable trauma from the past, to acknowledge and heal our interconnections with all existence.

"We Were One" is a notion of expanding beyond the current Western colonial ideology which is primarily based on the pre-1920's Western science paradigm. This notion is conceived in an attempt to invite us to liberate our socially conditioned limitations of the self in relationship with the existence of the universe. "We Were One" isn't an answer, but rather a question, to aspire ourselves to move, unfetter, re-embody and re-engage with the world and the connection with each other from the past programs of the mind. To recognize and appreciate that we are here as humans, to experience the human journey of the illusions of this 3D world of physical reality, while rediscovering or staying connected with the multifaceted and multidimensional nature of our true existence. "We Were One" is past-tense, as a way to inspire us to notice our present is full of limitless possibilities and manifest a future that we genuinely desire with our true potentials, whilst holding the space with the universe together as a whole.

"We Were One" is like a state of rediscovering your favourite old song that you've forgotten. It reminds you how happy, joyful and the profound beauty of memories of where we could be—how our whole body could be singing, our cells are activated and our mind is bursting with tears of joy. But what if this time, it's an old song for your soul?
