1500 word essay about a specific designer or design house, which will be displayed in a bio app format. For my essay I decided to focus on Josef Müller-Brockmann as I was interested in and inspired by his method of working because it focuses on having everything organised, clearly displayed and easy to understand.
The question that I decided to answer was, “How did Josef Müller-Brockmann influence designers to prioritise the audience?”. I decided on this question as Müller-Brockmann’s style is focused on laying out information in a way that is easy for the audience to understand.
I began with my initial research by finding articles and websites that focused on him and had information that I found helpful, from this I picked quotes that I thought I could use throughout my essay and I created the references for these quotes using this website; Cite This For Me: Harvard, APA, MLA Reference Generator, I created the reference for each website as I found information, so that it would be quicker to create my bibliography and to ensure that all my references were accurate.

I started writing my essay in word:

Once I finished writing my essay, I began to think of ideas for the design of my essay and I began to sketch these out to figure out what design would best suit my bio app.
(Put sketches here)
I initially wanted to have icons for the buttons to navigate the bio app but after I sketched a few of these and decided exactly what sections i was including in my essay, i thought it would be clearly and easier to understand to just use text, so the user can easily identify the different pages in the bio app.
My initial idea to include the references of quotes and images, were to have these references listed below each quote/image but I wanted to be able to have it hidden and not visible at all time, because I didn't want to pages to look too cluttered. From our tutorial on week 9 i was able to learn how to make an accordion which gave me an idea on how to achieve this.
Banner across top of each page of the bio app, to clearly show the page that the user is on and the keep consistency across all the pages. This would ensure that the navigation of the bio app was easy to understand, and this would help with usability which was one of my prioritises while designing my bio app. I also thought that this would fit the style of Müller-Brockmann which I wanted to do throughout my design as a way to support my essay and to actively show the relevance of his work in modern design.
Specifically on the home page I also wanted to create a design that was inspired my Müller-Brockmann’s work, I decided that I would rather do this than just include images of his work
Using what i learnt in the tutorials from week 7 - 11, I was able to effectively create an interactive prototype for my bio app, this prototype in figma allowed me to easily create the design that i had initially sketched for this. This prototype also allowed me to make the bio app interactive i.e. navigation buttons to go between each page of the bio app and it allowed me to implement my idea for the references which meant I could keep my bio app tidy looking while still having the references available for the user.
