My design of the food tray is a little sheep. The head of the sheep would be the hole to be cut out. The outline of the shape is smooth and easy to cut, but the sheep's head is very irregular and may be hard to cut.
I first used the band saw to cut the outline of the sheep food tray. The shape of the outline is very smooth and rounded, so it's not difficult to use the band saw to cut out the shape. I started the cut from the top of the sheep and made the cut little by little at first, since the cutting line is almost tangent to the border of the wood.
It only took me less than 30 minutes to roughly cut the shape with the band saw. After cutting, the edge is zigzag since I did the cuts several times and sometimes I also hesitated when cutting. Since this is the first time that I used the band saw to cut a curve line, I hesitated several times during cutting. Also, I cut too much into the line for one part so that I have to sand out more material later.
To cut the head of the sheep out, I firstly used drill press to make two regular holes. (I forgot to take photos for this step)
At first, I pull the handle of the drill press slowly, and I found that in that way, the chips it produced became smaller and it's more difficult to clean up. Therefore, Andy told me that it's better to pull it a lit bit faster until I heard the sound of cutting through the board.
