This Privacy Policy explains how WhatTheFeed (the "extension"), an application developed by Lorenzo Cavallo ("we", "us"), handles your information.
1. What Information We Process and Why
Our extension is designed to help you analyze Instagram content. To do this, it processes two types of data:
A) Data for Core Functionality
When you use the extension on an Instagram page, it processes public information from posts and reels (like counts, comment counts, captions).
- How it's used: This data is used only to sort the content as you request and to prepare it for export.
- How it's handled: This entire process happens locally on your computer. We never see, save, or transmit this content data to our servers. It is discarded when you close or refresh the page.
B) Anonymous Analytics Data
To improve our extension, we may collect anonymous, aggregated usage data using Google Analytics 4.
- What we collect: This includes events like a button being clicked, which features are most popular, a non-precise geographic location (e.g., country or city), and general browser information.
- What we NEVER collect: We never track your browsing history, personal identifiers (like usernames or profile content), or any other sensitive information via analytics.
- Why we collect it: This helps us understand how the extension is used so we can fix bugs and build better features. The use of Google Analytics is subject to their Privacy Policy.
2. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share any user data with third parties, other than the anonymous analytics data sent to Google Analytics as described above.
3. Your Choices and Rights
- Core Data: Since the Instagram content data is processed locally, you are in full control. To clear it, simply refresh the page. Any data you export is saved to your computer, under your control.
- Extension Removal: You can remove the WhatTheFeed extension at any time through your Chrome browser settings, which will also delete any locally stored preferences.
4. Security
We take reasonable measures to ensure data is handled securely, even locally. All communication between your browser and Instagram is subject to Instagram's own security protocols.
