Shelf-Life operates on the basis of calculating the similarities between user uploaded photos and several pre-designated images. However, the images uploaded by users are not stored externally to the application but are processed entirely within the v application.
On the basis of its primary use as pixel-art app, the Shelf-Life application features modified object images obtained from Google Images.
