YouTube Watch Later Summarizer Privacy Policy

YouTube Watch Later Summarizer is a Chrome extension that helps users summarize videos in their YouTube Watch Later playlist and summarize individual YouTube videos using their own OpenAI API key.

Data The Extension Handles

The extension may process:

• YouTube video metadata, including title, channel name, thumbnail URL, duration, video ID, and playlist ID.
• Transcript text made available by YouTube for videos the user chooses to summarize.
• Generated summaries and deep-dive analyses.
• The user's OpenAI API key.
• Extension settings, including selected OpenAI model, output language, target playlist ID, default batch size, and concurrency.

How Data Is Used

Transcript text and video context are sent to OpenAI only when the user starts a summary batch, clicks Quick Summary, or requests a deep dive. The OpenAI API key is sent only to OpenAI API endpoints to authenticate those requests.

The target playlist ID is used only to add selected videos to the configured YouTube playlist and remove them from Watch Later.

Storage

Settings and generated batch state are stored locally using Chrome extension storage. The extension does not operate an external server and does not sell user data.

Third-Party Services

The extension sends data to:

• OpenAI API, for transcript summarization and API key validation.
• YouTube, through the user's logged-in browser session, for transcript display and playlist edits.

Users should review OpenAI's and YouTube's own privacy terms for how those services handle data.
