Lingered is designed with your privacy at its core. Your messages and contacts stay on your device. The only data ever leaving the device is anonymous diagnostics — and you can turn those off.
All messages you write are stored locally on your device using an on-device database. They are never uploaded to any server. Lingered has no accounts, no cloud sync, and no message backup service.
Emotion analysis runs entirely on your device using an on-device AI model. Your text is never sent to external servers for processing.
Non-English text may be translated on-device using downloaded language models — no network requests are made for translation after the initial model download.
Lingered accesses your contacts (with your permission) only to let you address messages. Contact data is never stored or transmitted off your device.
Lingered uses Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics, both provided by Google. They collect:
What is never collected: message content, recipient names, phone numbers, email addresses, contact data, your real name, your account, your IP-derived precise location, or any advertising identifier (IDFA / AAID).
This data is processed by Google on our behalf. It is not shared with any other third party, is not used for advertising, and is not joined with any external dataset.
Crash reports are retained by Firebase for ~90 days. Analytics events are retained for up to 14 months.
You can turn diagnostics off at any time: Settings → Privacy → Share diagnostics. When off, Lingered sends nothing — and the per-install identifier is reset so prior events cannot be re-linked to a future opt-in.
No advertising. No advertising identifiers. No data sold or shared with data brokers. No marketing communications.
