Sometimes it is required that a policy by Primary and Non-Contributory. This means that the contractor's policy must pay before other applicable policies (primary) and without seeking contribution from other policies that also claim to be primary (noncontributory).

Primary and Non-contributory wording usually appears in one of three places:

  1. In the COI's description of operations box
  2. On an Additional Remarks page
  3. On a separate endorsement.

Let's take a look at each!

1. In the COI's description of operations box of an ACORD 25

3. On a separate endorsement.

You may identify primary wording inside of an Additional Insured endorsement in the title, sub-title, or body text. It could literally be anywhere, so keep your eyes open!
