About EXMNA

Ex-Muslims of North America (EXMNA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which advocates for acceptance of religious dissent, promotes secular values, and aims to reduce discrimination faced by those who leave Islam.

Its work has included establishing and maintaining support communities for ex-Muslims in various American and Canadian cities, educating the public through events and mini-documentaries, and monitoring and documenting persecution for dissent from dogma.

About the Apostate Report

The Apostate Report documents the results of EXMNA’s survey of American and Canadian ex-Muslims (non-theists who have left Islam).

This survey is a first-of-its-kind undertaking. Very little research exists on ex-Muslims altogether, as they have been until recently a largely hidden population, and none with the detail and depth explored here.

The survey illuminates the lives and experiences of ex-Muslims before, during, and after apostasy. Through its findings, an image emerges of a group occupying a complex and challenging position in North American society—navigating the freedoms and obstacles of secular life while negotiating their places in their families, their communities, and their societies.
