President’s Wisdom

Description

(From The Quest for Theta Xi) "The president's job is to direct, coordinate and supervise the concerted effort of the entire chapter. If he permits himself to be mired in details, he fails in his principal job. The President's real duties are to choose to right man for each job; to instruct each appointee on his duties; and to constantly supervise each appointee to see that he actually does his job completely. The success of his term of office and the vitality of his chapter will be measured by how well he performs these duties."

From the By-Laws

Rising Stars' Academy and Presidents' Academy

The Theta Xi Rising Stars' Academy (RSA) and Presidents' Academy generally take place at the beginning or middle of IAP. Any active member of the chapter who has been initiated since the last RSA may attend it. The chapter's Corporation Board and Theta Xi Nationals will fund at least one attendee (possibly two or three) to RSA and the President's attendance at the Presidents' Academy.

At least one member of the chapter must attend RSA and the President must attend the Presidents' Academy in order for the chapter to be accredited by Nationals in the "Chapter Operations" area.

Newell District Leadership Academy

The Newell District Leadership Academy (NDLA) occurs every year around late February. The President and least three other active members of the Chapter (four members total) must attend one location of the NDLA. The other members may be any active members, but are recommended to be among the following Officers: Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Recruitment Chair, Membership Educator, and Scholarship Chair. Many other chapters usually send anywhere from five people to the whole chapter to the conference. Travel expenses are reimbursed by the Corporation Board.

Attendance at NDLA is a requirement for accreditation by Nationals.

House Retreats

Funding

MIT offers funding for retreats. In order to receive funding the chapter must submit a funding proposal along with a tentative schedule and a breakdown of costs to the FSILG office. The documents from Spring 2012 can be found below but a current version of the Funding Proposal Form should be acquired. Funding can be obtained for out-of-house and in-house retreats. All forms must be submitted at least two weeks before the retreat.
