Each of the following case studies offers a perspective emblematic of postcapitalist possibilities based on various approaches to the activity and outputs of design or the methods of sourcing materials, labor, and means of production. They illuminate hybrid forms of social organization among designers, producers, and users—in many cases, transforming “users” into active producers and/or designers.
