Pommelball

By Brandon Leon-Gambetta

Introduction

Pommelball is a competitive board game designed for two players that simulates a fantasy sport filled to the brim with magic, combat, and weird happenings. The design intention with this is quick play and deep campaigns. If you want to play a pick-up game, grab a couple of teams and be in game. For people who want to get muddy with the mechanics, there are mechanics to take on the management of a team over multiple games, form a tournament, or even trace a team through multiple leagues.

This game is inspired by Nintendo Hockey, Blood Bowl, and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Before You Begin

You will need:

-A field map! Pommelball comes with a default field map which can be printed out. If you don't have that though, grab any tabletop minis map, toss an end zone line on either side (the full width of the field) and a wizard's hole (approximately 2 squares in the middle of each end zone), and go with that.

-12 player cards, one for each pommel ball player

-6 minis for each team

-A ball mini, counter, or print out on a paperclip

-Counters, coins, or bits of paper to mark effects or areas

-A bunch of six sided dice, ideally in your team colors

-A way to keep score (tokens, a scoreboard, pen and paper, a jumbotron)

-A way to keep track of turns (about 20 of them) or a turn event deck

[Box] Where Do I Get Teams?

Depending upon how involved you want to get with crunch and team management, you've got a couple of options.

-The back of this book has both pre-made fully done teams and unflavored team compositons characters. Print those out and you're good to go.
