How to get started

Reference Image Setup

  1. Find an SVG image as reference

<aside> 👨‍💻 Make sure to choose different styled SVG image as your reference. See here for a list of styles Art Style Guide

We recommend Freepik, as you can save, copy and paste thumbnail images without watermarks. If you’re using another source and cannot copy and paste without watermarks, screenshot the image instead.

  1. Import your SVG reference image

<aside> 👨‍💻 Now paste or import your reference image into Figma. Please create a free personal account at https://www.figma.com/, start a new file and just paste the image into this blank canvas

  1. Frame your reference image

<aside> 👨‍💻 Create a frame by right-clicking your image and selecting Frame Selection or use the following shortcuts: Option + Command + G (MacOS) or Alt + Control + G (Windows)

  1. Prepare your second frame

<aside> 👨‍💻 This is the frame you’ll be using to draw your vector sketch in. You can either:

a) Delete the reference image entirely b) Or reduce the reference image’s opacity to use as a guide for sketching (do not line trace the reference image, and make sure to delete the image after you’ve completed your sketch!)
