Poker is increasingly becoming the activity of choice for high performance individuals with games cropping up across the city. In addition to home games, investors are organizing games with the intention of meeting founders in an alternative networking environment and increasing access to deal flow (see Foundation Capital, PEF, and Khosla below). Well-organized games are boons for organizers who want to distinguish and embody excellence.

Community Building

We recommend organizations looking to create a community to organize recurring cash games and tournaments**,** one of each a quarter. For cash games, you should plan to have two tables, one for lower stakes at $0.5/$1 or $1/2 and then one at higher stakes, $2/5 or even $5/$10.

For tournaments, we recommend free rolls where players can participate for free for a prize you offer such as $500 for 1st, $250 for 2nd, etc. You can offset these costs with tournaments where players buy in. We have seen many clever adaptations that allow organizers to recoup their costs while still giving players an incentive to play for.
