Reading Practice Tool for kids
This tool is meant to help kids practice reading out loud while giving teachers real-time feedback on how they’re doing. So I wanted the interface to feel friendly and calm for a Grade 3 student, but also clear and information-rich for the teacher. I kept the layout structured and minimal, with playful touches that guide, not distract.

How I Structured the Screen
I followed a 3-part layout across all screens:
1. Top Header
- Shows assessment status, AI activity, and a session timer.
- Helps both teacher and student know everything is working and how much time is left.
2. Main Section – Made for the Student
- This takes up most of the space (about 70%).
- Big, high-contrast fonts for easy reading.
- Toggle between Practice Text and Reading Text with just one click.
- Progress bar and “Start Reading” button feel simple and motivating.
- A cute mascot pops up before and after reading to make the experience warm and encouraging.
3. Right Panel – Teacher’s Evaluation Space
- Changes based on the screen state:
- Idle: Shows reading tips and what will be assessed.
- Live: Stays minimal so the student can focus.
- Complete: Displays phoneme-level accuracy and scores for words.
- I used clear labels (like “Excellent” or “Good”) and consistent colors for fast understanding.
