Lorna Simpson (b. August 13, 1960, New York) is an American photographer and multimedia artist. First African-American woman to exhibit at Venice Biennale (1990). MFA UC San Diego (1985). Major works: "Guarded Conditions", "Square Deal" (photo-text installations), "Corridor" (2003). Recent paintings include Ice, Special Characters, and Earth and Sky series.
This first European retrospective of over a decade of Simpson's painting practice addresses erosion and reappearance of memory, featuring 50+ works across paintings, collages, sculptures, and installations.

Paulo Nazareth (b. 1977, Governador Valadares, Brazil) is an Afro-Brazilian artist exploring structural violence through durational performance walks. In 2011, he walked barefoot from Brazil to New York over five months through 15 countries. Major works: "Notícias de América", "Banana Market/Art Market".
"Algebra" (from Arabic "al-jabr" meaning to put broken bones together) addresses unresolved fractures in history, particularly racial and colonial violence.
Founded by François Pinault. Collection of ~10,000 contemporary works.
