The Summer of Protocols program grew out of a set of discussions in a group within the Ethereum community between November 2022 and February 2023. We have tried to summarize the substance of these discussions in an evolving pilot study titled The Unreasonable Sufficiency of Protocols.

A final version will be published alongside the output of the program later in 2023. In the spirit of “working in public,” we welcome comments and feedback on this draft version.
The goal of this study is to set the overall context and scope for the program, trace the broad thematic contours, and establish some initial terms of reference.
