We, like many investors, entrepreneurs and economists are hugely excited by Africa’s future. Many will be familiar with the headlines:
- By the end of this century, Africa’s population is forecast to grow from today’s 1.2bn to more than 4bn, closing in on Asia for the world’s most populous continent (Future Africa)
- At 19.5 years, the continent has the world’s youngest median age (United Nations)
- During this time, unicorns and futurecorns like Interswitch ($1Bn), Andela ($700m) and Jumia ($650m) have been built with many in the waiting
Along with our friends at Future Africa, we were delighted to host an event to discuss what the next 10 years hold. Some of the topics we explored include:
- What is needed to build a thriving seed ecosystem in Africa? What ingredients do we have and what is missing?
- How is the regulatory infrastructure evolving and what role should policymakers play in accelerating the opportunity?
- How can venture help to solve the continent’s biggest social challenges?
We invited founders, investors, creators and others with an interest in, and passion for, Africa’s future.
