Pam - best friend died - see below

Robbie - felt a little tired only

Zach, Claire, James - see below

Wolf - see below

Susan 60 in Portland - March - NAC hit very hard, at 85 to 90% 7 months later, got it from guy who had seen acupuncturist, no touch, he was presymptomatic. Knows two who died, one diabetic 55, NYC, other Oregon 60, no underlying conditions, got it from wife who was asymptomatic, 15 acquaintances have gotten it, contacted her, four hospitalized. Super cautious from beginning.

Zack 33 in So. Cal - they locked down hard. 10 days of lockdown before first symptoms as planning to go to Malta for work. Don’t know how got it, possibly got it from son James at his preschool, but no one else there got it. Claire 30 got it, but asymptomatic throughout, smell dulled a few days. Zack 5-10 days of flu symptoms, then cough, loss of smell for two weeks. James (2 y.o.) fever of 103 to 103.5 four or five days after Zack showed symptoms, had night terrors screaming for two weeks, no loss of appetite. Zack not debilitated, some loss of appetite, cough most of month, mild. Coworker around 50 very fit, ended in ICU for 20 days, almost died, didn’t know how he got it, possible long term long damage. Aunt, uncle, whole tour group of 12 got it, had to quarantine for a month, all mild cases say no big deal - Trump supporters.

Wolf - 61 y.o. worked 16 hours/day. Lungs weak, asthma, history of pneumonia. Was making $10K/mo as everyone needed deliveries. One of the strangest experiences ever. Got it maybe July. One week until he felt bad enough to go see someone. Then one day it hit hard. Started with pain in thigh. Eventually entire head hurt like hell. Couldn't do anything. Like a plague that gripped his brain. Fever also. Ibuprofen or Tylenol gratefully gave rapid relief. Went to special intermediate COVID care unit for two weeks in a motel in Novato. Mostly in bed all day. COVID brain immediately afterward, feared he would crash the car. Had weird dry cough from early on, got worse, couldn't sleep because of it. Cough only cleared a month ago, now 97% better.

Pam - 70 y.o. I got covid in mid September from my friend (who died recently). She was a retired teacher, and didn't know she had been exposed at a monthly bridge game with 3 friends. She came to visit me from New Braunfels for our annual get together to celebrate birthdays. We even went to two restaurants and they checked temperature each time--no symptoms. But the next day she left my house early, saying she didn't feel good. Within a few hours she had 102 temperature. It had been incubating about a week. I got symptoms 3 days later-- I only had two days of heavy cold-like symptoms, and a week of fatigue. That was it. She was hospitalized after a couple of weeks and intubated for 6 weeks. They did a tracheotomy and she was getting good oxygen that way. They were going to put her in rehab, but she got bacterial pneumonia and then yeast in the lungs on top of that. Docs said no healthy cells in her lungs. But she had medication controlled diabetes, was overweight and sedentary, and did not eat healthy, so all of those things contributed. I thank my lucky stars that I am in good health, and that made a difference in how I was able to be ok.

H from N -

a guy I know from school in SF spent over a month in a coma in the ICU in NYC. mid 40s, 10 years ago he was training. He almost didn't make it, we weren't sure he would

a friendly acquaintance of our family got covid, went into hospital on a... Saturday? and was gone on Tue. Huge shock for many people. Very positive and giving man. I didn't personally know him but my sister and parents did, and I heard about him and his family for years. They're devastated. don't know the exact age or health but his daughter is prolly in her 30s and as far as I know he had no health complications

another SF friend (not SB) was very ill, never went to hospital but was so weak at home they did fear for their life. Late 40s? I don't feel free to share too many personal details.

A Montréal friend lost her mother -- without ever seeing her. SO AWFUL. she hadn't seen her for months, and was never able to go and say goodbye. Somehow this is even more horrible than "just" losing someone (already awful)

I just read that this 3rd wave has a lot of asymptomatic people, which makes it harder for tracking

of course my 24 year old cousin had a relatively mild case, in July, but last time I talked to him (late sept or early oct) his sense of smell Still wasn't back to normal. If that's off, what else is? He's physically strong and fit, but he's also one of the most sensitive and spiritually aware peeps in our family...

Sorry I’m dictating so there were some weird typos… One woman was pregnant about to give birth, and the infant also got Covid

I just found out from an elderly neighbor that an entire branch of her family had Covid: her daughter and all of her daughters children except one or two that came home to visit… It’s a large family. When we went it was pregnant and when she gave birth the infant also got Covid. Fortunately everyone recovered, Including the infant…

Thanks for taking the time to write all of that, Hannah. From you and others I've become convinced that the virus is hitting more young and healthy people than I thought, and that asymptomatic transmission is more problematic than I thought. Thanks for helping to clarify this. Take good care and may your move go smoothly. Much love and a warm hug to you.
