Stories are good at communicating things that mimicry cannot.

Stories can compress knowledge that would be burdensome to communicate through demonstration-alone.

Stories are often used for moral tales and parables. In a single human life you can only experiience so much morality through direct experience, but through stories you can get to moral maturity faster.

Writing

Written law adds trust and objectivity to the "idea of the law"
