So, you’re in İstanbul and have rented your house 🏠. The next step is monthly payment .
If you already made an upfront payment, you’re ahead of the game! 👍
Payment Tips:
- Bank transfers (SWIFT) are usually expensive.
- In the beginning, I recommend paying the deposit via an online transfer that can be tracked 🖥️✅.
- Western Union is the easiest and fastest for payments up to 500 EUR. After that, it charges high commissions and sometimes it’s hard to find euros or USD at WU offices.
Alternative Options:
- TransferGo – transfers from Europe to a Turkish bank account, but only in Turkish Lira. Euros will arrive converted to Lira. 💱
- Revolut – convenient for sending money internationally.
- ATMs – withdrawing cash is expensive and has daily limits.
Practical Advice:
- Before arriving in İstanbul, bring cash to cover at least one month’s rent, deposit, and commission 💵.
- After getting your residence permit card, you can open a Turkish bank account 🏦.
- You can then transfer payments from your foreign account to your Turkish Euro or USD account.
- Once the money arrives in Turkey, you can withdraw from the bank without extra commission.
- Note: commission applies when transferring from your foreign account to your Turkish account.
💡 Important: This only applies to rent payments. Otherwise, most of the time you’ll be fine using your foreign credit or debit card for everyday expenses. 💳
